A Devotional Experience with PSALM 119

Published on 2 December 2024 at 06:26

Our Winter challenge December 2024 was about studying through Psalm 119 which was devotional in nature. With the help of the Holy Spirit, the Lord of Harvest who is our principal teacher. We have received the illumination through the lenses of the Poet/Psalmist on what we are to KNOW and UNDERSTAND with WISDOM about the Word of God. Also described as His Laws, Testimonies, Precepts, Statues, Commandments, Judgements and His Ways. The Poet/Psalmist in Psalm 119 sums his interaction with God’s Word and how it

  • Allows one to know the Mind and Heart of God
  • It gives guidance and brings enlightenment
  • It is an anchor in times of trouble i.e. storms of life
  • In uncertainties it provides strength, comfort, hope and peace
  • It purifies and sanctifies
  • It is unchanging and remains forever the established standard from generation to generation.

Something worth noting, Psalm 119 is an acrostic poem and is also known as the Mount Everest of Psalm. This is because it is the longest chapter in the Bible consisting of 176 verses which are grouped in 22 stanzas. Each stanza is made up of 8 verses and begins with a successive letter in the Hebrew alphabet which also contains 22 letters.

Please have your Pen and Journal notebook ready. Devote 15mins per day for the next 30 days to study each Hebrew Alphabet (8 verses a day) except for Saturday and Sunday which is set aside as rest days. A time to meditate upon the reference scriptures and complete the challenges.

May this journey bring you closer to God through Christ Jesus, Amen!
